Telling a Story: Final Project Ideas

So, for the final project I had a few ideas about how it would be really cool to do a "film pitch" of sorts. There is so much that could be invested in this, that would make it really awesome and fun for a group project. Of course, we'd probably have to stray a bit from the traditional sense of film pitching since that consists of many different types of pitches which take place as a writer and others present their ideas to producers. Still, we can use the essentials - presenting our ideas as if we want to convince someone to consider our film for production.

When producers listen to pitches, there are usually a few things that they look for in the initial pitch. They want to know how the film could be cast, how they'll market it, how much it will cost to make, and what other films the idea resembles. Later on, if a producer expresses interest, usually they will want to hear a story pitch too. This is a presentation of the actual overall story, and introduces main conflict and characters to bring the story to life and show the producer what you're thinking.

Soooo....

We could have someone be the writer. Someone who wants to take a piece of a Shakespeare play and come up with some sort of script. I think it could be fun to stray a bit from reusing the actual story, and use the story as a basis to come up with a modern twist. That's just me though.

We could have someone act as the casting director. Someone who can come up with a "dream cast", or people who they think would do well playing certain characters and why.

Someone could be a marketer, and focus on advertising and maybe make posters or talk about how the film would bring interest from viewers.

Once we have the story, there are a few other options that we have as well. Someone can do some sort of costume design, another can come up with a music score or music that they think would go along with the story. And I would do a storyboard, outlining the "blueprint" of the film scene and sort of bringing it all together. If someone wanted to work on that with me that would be awesome as well.

Here is a little video about storyboarding, and its development by Walt Disney:

Also, some pictures from a book I have all about composition and layout for animation. It's a pretty good tool when thinking about how to present a story in an interesting visual way.

Storyboard from Disney's Peter Pan:

Just some things to get the creative juices flowing. If anyone else wants to get on board with me on this, let me know! I'll post some more info/ideas later.

  1. We talked a bit about this in class on Wednesday and developed a few other things with it too. I think we can probably get a good number of us involved in it...

  2. What other things were discussed? I missed class Wednesday because I had a test review at the same time.

  3. I'm just putting up a small post about it now. I guess you can see what you think about it. It can be found here:
